Innovations in Public Awareness of Anthropology (IPAA) grants are awarded to individuals holding an advanced degree (doctorate or masters) or equivalent in anthropology or a closely related discipline to support innovative projects to raise public awareness of anthropology among groups of all ages. IPAA grants are introduced as part of the Wenner-Gren Foundation’s 75^th anniversary initiatives. They are designed to encourage anthropologists to develop novel and effective ways of increasing the visibility of anthropology for the general public and highlighting anthropology’s relevance in the modern world.

There is no preference for the type of public awareness initiative funded through this program, its intended audience, or the nature of the anthropological research or message to be communicated. The Foundation is looking for innovation in public awareness projects that have a strong potential of success for their target audience.

The maximum amount of the Innovations in Public Awareness of Anthropology grant is US $20,000 and a minimum of ten grants will be funded during the 75th anniversary year, 2016. Continuation of this program in future years will depend on the sustained interest of the field and the overall success of the program during the anniversary year.

Applicants can apply regardless of institutional affiliation, country of residence, or nationality. There is no time limit on the duration of the grant.  Application deadlines are December 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016. Final decisions are made within five months.

Applicants must submit their applications using the Foundation’s online application submission procedure as well as send three printed copies to the Foundation by regular mail.
