{"id":69,"date":"2013-05-08T23:27:42","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T23:27:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kula.si\/?p=69"},"modified":"2015-09-17T16:47:48","modified_gmt":"2015-09-17T16:47:48","slug":"summer-school-cultures-migrations-borders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kula.si\/?p=69","title":{"rendered":"Summer school Cultures, Migrations, Borders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of <b>Social Anthropology and History of the University of the Aegean<\/b> and the <b>Institute of Migration and Ethnic Studies of the University of Amsterdam<\/b> welcome applications for the<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><b>SUMMER SCHOOL<\/b><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><b>CULTURES, MIGRATIONS, BORDERS<\/b><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">that will take place on the island of <b>Lesvos, Greece from 3 to 14 July, 2013.<\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Drawing upon an increasing interest in the study of cultures, migrations and borders, our Summer School examines how migrations shape and are shaped by processes of boundary formation in a variety of cultural encounters.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The programme of the course is structured around four thematic axes:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Theoretical and methodological issues in the study of migration and borders.<\/li>\n<li>Institutional and political aspects of the migratory condition.<\/li>\n<li>People on the move: immigrant groups, refugees and host communities.<\/li>\n<li>Cross-cultural encounters across borders and interactions of host\/immigrant on the border.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Apart from lectures by specialized scholars, the programme includes a number of fieldtrips which form the basis for project preparation and presentation. Students will have the chance to interact with asylum seekers hosted at a reception centre, experience border life and the reality of border crossing from Greece (Mytilene) to Turkey (Ayvalik), visit a former detention center for irregular immigrants and become acquainted with the cultural heritage of Lesvos. Doctoral students will have the opportunity to present their work at a seminar designed for their needs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This year the Summer School also includes a public event with leading scholars in the study of migration and border-crossing.
